I got to Dublin yesterday…the airport was really busy and by the time I found my apartment it was 3 pm. People who gave me directions said the apartment was “at the top of the street”…..what they really meant was “at the end of the block”—haha–these Dubliners should see the top of our streets! My room looks right out at a church.
After settling in I a took a walk to the city center. There is a 356-foot spire in the middle of the main tourist street. Admiral Nelson used to be there but he has been replaced by what dubious Dubliners call the tallest waste of 5 million euro in all of Europe. Its nickname: the Stiffy on the Liffey. The Liffey is the river running thru Dublin.
I also took the Hop on/hop off bus to get my bearings, had dinner and a pint in a pub and fell asleep around 9pm. I had one mishap in Iceland— I left my bathing suit at the Blue Lagoon and my gloves on the bus. Went shopping in Dublin. Two suits=$30 and gloves=$3. Hope I learned my lesson.
Today I visited Trinity College and Dublin Castle. The Castle was built by King John ( he was the bad guy in Robin Hood). Also did the “40 steps” and had lunch and a pint in a pub—there are 2 thousand of them in Dublin.

Hi Barb! Glad you are doing well. I am really homesick for Ireland after seeing your photos (including the breakfast!). I would love to return there. Dublin is great. Don’t miss the Book of Kells. Thanks for the travelogue! Love, Lou XO
