Correction: there was nothing irrelevant about my irreverence of The Scream. My plans were to fly out of Oslo on Sunday and stay overnight at the KEF airport. I could take a trip to see northern lights if the weather cooperated that night and I made reservations for a quick trip to the Blue Lagoon... Continue Reading →
Oslo—The Cherry on Top
I didn't know much about Scandinavia (I did know the three countries were not in Europe, but that would have made my WordPress handle too long). I knew least about Norway. The train ride took 6 hours and the countryside looked a lot like Ohio. My place was about a ten-minute walk from the train... Continue Reading →
Stockholm–Why I Like You
It probably helped that I had a really cool flat and cooked up some really good food. The weather held up and I was dressed just right. I set off for Skansen in the morning. This is an amazing open-air museum. It was founded in 1891 and takes up the top of a big hill... Continue Reading →
Stockholm– I Didn’t Know Much About You
This city is really like no other. Fourteen islands with 1/3 green space, 1/3 buildings, and 1/3 water. What other big city has a lake in the middle of it? Twenty percent of Swedes live in Stockholm. There are 600 statues. It is lovely--with all that water you get great views of the palace, churches... Continue Reading →
My Last Lovely Day in Copenhagen
I started the day with a visit to Rosenborg Castle. I liked the silver lions guarding the thrones and the crowns. There was a picture of a little friend of one of the crown prince and the king's "erotica room"---didn't show us what was in that room: I walked about the city and the harbor... Continue Reading →
I LOVE Copenhagen!!!!
I know I must seem pretty fickle......it seems every city I go is my favorite but I have really fallen for this one. It has paved streets, narrow cobblestone street and very few cars (tax on cars is 150% of the value) and not too many bikes. It's very easy to get around by walking,... Continue Reading →
Reykjavik was great…
Reykjavik was great...only a 4-hour time difference. Went to soak in the Blue Lagoon today. Lunch at the fancy restaurant was wonderful. Bought some angora socks at the bus station. Everyone doing a "walk about" in Europe should have Angora socks---they make you feel like you have bedroom slippers on. I'm off to Dublin in... Continue Reading →
Made it to Reykjavik
The trip over was fine. No challenges except for a slight shoe problem. Got new shoes at the Pgh airport and I was "good to go". Did sites in town and had three types of pickled herring for lunch.
