Lucknow To Delhi To Pittsburgh—The End Of An Incredible India Journey

Our last stop was at Lucknow, a city of 5 million citizens. There are 40% Muslim, 40% Hindi and 20% of mixed religions.

This city is a pilgrimage site for Muslims and there is a magnificent, gigantic compound of mosques, meeting halls and living quarters that were constructed centuries ago during the mogul rule of India. The Bara Imambara and famous Shia Muslim shrines are beautiful:

We also visited the Pallava Residency. This is an old British city within Lucknow that was partly destroyed in 1857. The destruction occurred during the first uprising by the Indians for independence. The movement was stifled and England went on to “rule” under the Raj for 90 more years. The gardens and ruined buildings give a view into the past:

Our last train ride was a 7 hour trip back to Delhi. I hope I never forget the lessons I’ve learned over these past 8 weeks.

My original flight from Delhi to Newark was cancelled due to maintenance/repair issues. Now I leave at 2:45 am and fly to Frankfurt. Then I have a flight to Newark and finally onto “the burg”. I don’t even want to think about how many hours this itinerary will be. I am looking forward to going back to the US of A–a great place to live!
