Split is Pretty Special

After a day at sea (meaning in the spa), we sailed overnight thru the Ionian and Adriatic seas to wake up in Split.  Our stateroom porter has been leaving us towel animals with one of the best: a monkey/sloth

The old city was a palace/town/fortification years ago.  Today, it is more like a walled city with multiple gates– no great palace-like buildings but squares, narrow streets and a Cathedral.  It has a lot of little hotels and restaurants and was teaming with tourists.  We were one of four cruise ships at the docks.  I can imagine that it is probably incredible at night when everyone clears out.  Pictures do not do this little jewel of a city justice:

We are off to Venice to arrive at 8 am.
