Buon Giorno Lugano

This town of 63,000 people in the southwest corner of Switzerland doesn’t know it is Swiss. Everyone speaks Italian and you can not get raclette (a Swiss staple) in this place.  The train ride through Switzerland is really beautiful.  There are many lakes, hills, and some pretty big mountains.  We had to go through a 32-mile tunnel (longest in the world) at 124 miles/hour to have a 2 1/2 hour trip.

Lugano was having the Autumn festival and there were a zillion booths with all kinds of arts, crafts, and food.  Little bands were playing and a good time was had by all.  I had polenta with mushrooms and a little glass of wine to fortify me for the walk around.  They cooked the polenta in a big cauldron with a mechanical paddle— you have to love those Swiss/Italians:

After checking out the booths (can’t buy/fit anything in the suitcase) I found the chestnut roasters:

Of course, I had to have a cone full.  At a table next to me a “gaggle” of kids were diving into a large size cone.

I walked around some more and found my way back to my hotel.  Some pictures I took along the way (check out the palm trees):
