I Love Bruges

This little town is just lovely.  I forgot to show you a pulpit from a church in Ghent.   There are too many churches and alters…..a site will have to be pretty spectacular for me to send you a photo.

Now back to Bruges.  Tuesday I walked to the center and toured City Hall….to see the beautiful court/ meeting room upstairs you had to pay (the ticket lady made me show ID to prove I was a senior– ha ha).

I then went to the Basilica of the Precious Blood.  I laid my hands over the little glass casket that holds a vial of Jesus’ dried blood.  It used to turn to liquid but has not done that for about 200 years.  A crusader brought it back to Bruges.I rented the movie In Bruges on iTunes and it inspired me to climb to the top of the bell tower.  Afterwards, I swore that is my last climb (senior discount here also–they shouldn’t let seniors go up).  A view from the top:

While I was recovering with a beer break I met some young Brits who told me I had to climb the cathedral in Cologne.I found my way to the church with Michael Angelo’s Madonna and Child.  This is the only sculpture that left Italy during his life time. You can tell he was satisfied with it because it is highly polished.I left Bruges on Wednesday.  Some pictures from my neighborhood:
