It rained a little yesterday but just for short periods and everyone acted like it wasn’t raining. I wore my little raincoat and had my little umbrella so I acted like that happens all the time because it does (they have rain during some part of 270 days a year).
No rain today— yet. I went to a tour at the Kilmainham Gaol (Jail). Very interesting and I received a refresher on Irish History. They fought their war for independence and their civil war all within a period of 7 years. Learned more about the potato blight and famine. This made me hungry so I went to The Oliver St. John Gogarty pub for some Leek and Potato soup, some good Irish bread and a pint. They had a band at lunch time—- nice.
I found out why the Irish drink a lot of Guinness (well really any type of alcohol). Oliver St. John Gogarty said: “Like dark sleep, it knits up the raveled sleave of care, and, what is an achievement, it waste the time that might, if we were not drinking, be devoted to scheming, posing, hypocrisy and money making.” Those Irish are smart and pretty darn nice.
Did you know that in Ireland there are no mosquitos, no snakes, no “man- eating animals and only harmless spiders? It’s true—a taxi driver told me so…….was he “pulling my leg”?????
I had dinner at the oldest pub in Dublin: The Brazen Head. I went for a lecture on folktales (an acre of potatoes could feed a family of 6-8 for a year) and fairies (I am now a believer).
